The axes and development of buses and metro expansion .. How does the country face traffic congestion inside Cairo?
Traffic crowding constitutes a major crisis, especially in Greater Cairo and some sub -areas. The matter exceeds noise and wasting a lot of time on the roads, and extends to the high economic cost, which reached in Greater Cairo alone to 8 billion pounds, according to a study issued by the World Bank in 2014.
The state has developed a plan to build and construct a road and a major network to confront the traffic crisis within Greater Cairo. The Ministry of Transport has established projects, major traffic axes at a value of 1.6 trillion pounds, including about 700 km of roads and axes in the vicinity of Cairo, and President Abdel Fattah Al -Sisi confirmed that these projects contribute to reducing traffic congestion and facilitating the daily movement of population and transportation, in addition to reducing pollution rates.
A study issued by the World Bank, May 2014, stated that the economic cost of traffic congestion in Greater Cairo alone amounted to 8 billion pounds, expected to increase the cost during 2030 to 18 billion.
The study indicated that the number of cars on the main axes and roads reached between 4: 7 thousand vehicles per hour, and each of the Ring Road at Maadi and the October 6 Bridge recorded the busiest places, as traffic reached 7,000 thousand cars/ hour in both directions and throughout the day.
Below we monitor the most prominent traffic axes that were held within the Greater Cairo range..
Long live Egypt Bridge
The bridge length is 540 meters, and its width is 67.3 meters, it contains 6 traffic lanes, links the bridge north and east of Cairo to the Alexandria Desert Road, and connects the circular and regional road, and the bridge serves the areas of highway, Al -Warraq, Al -Amiriya, Al -Sujah and Shubra Al -Khaimah.
The bridge was built in 4 years with 4000 engineers, workers and construction, under the supervision of the Engineering Authority of the Armed Forces, and the concrete bridge deserved to enter the Guinness Book as a scum bridge show in the world.
Paradise axis
The axis links the center of the center of Cairo and the main axes: Salah Salem Road, the highway, the circular road, the new Cairo regions and the administrative capital, with the aim of reducing traffic congestion in the areas of Nasr City, Heliopolis and the 6th of October Bridge, in addition to reducing fuel consumption to reduce pollution rates.
The project included the implementation of projects to waste rainwater, the restoration of the Kanuwa Dome, located on the Al -Mehwar Road, and the establishment of fences in front of the graves destinations and installations located on both sides of the road.
The axis of civilizations
The implementation of the axis of civilizations began in March 2021, and the axis includes 2 bridges..
The second bridge starts from the gate of the Museum of Civilization, passing through the area of Imam Al -Laithi and Al -Shafi’i, until it is linked to the highway road, and the axis achieves traffic liquidity and reduces the time to move from eastern Cairo to the Corniche of Manial, and aims to connect the archaeological area of Al -Fustat to the rest of Cairo.
Development of the circular road
The circular road development process started in September 2019, with a length of 106 km, and the cost of the project was 7.3 billion pounds, according to what is published on the website of Egypt Projects Map.
About 99% of the expansion of the Munib Bridge was implemented to be 8 lanes instead of 4, by creating a supportive road on both sides, and work is underway to finish the expansion of the rest of the road from the highway to Mariotia.
The project includes maintenance of entrances and exits and lighting the road, and the completion of cleaning the road from the paving layers with a length of 12 km from Mariotia to the Maadi Highway, bridges and pedestrian tunnels along the road, along with the development of the intersection.
Regional circular
The Engineering Authority of the Armed Forces, the Reconstruction Agency of the Ministry of Housing, and the General Authority for Roads, Bridges and Land Transport contributed to the establishment of the regional ring with a length of 400 km and a width of 42 km, and contains 4 traffic lanes in each direction.
The regional ring links Cairo and 15 governorates through intersection with a number of other roads, which helps to increase trade between the governorates of the Republic and reduce traffic congestion on the main roads.
The president opened the last stage of the bridge in 2018 and its cost was about 9.5 billion pounds, and links the Cairo-Alexandria agricultural and desert roads.
