The incident started when my colleague and photographer decided to visit the Lake Qarun Reserve in Fayoum, specifically the northern part of it, that unique location that contains a variety of fossils and deposits up to 40 million years old, and the oldest way in the world passes in the world to transport basalt stones. There are also Pharaonic and Roman archaeological areas, and the ancient Egyptian quarries dating back to 2500 BC. To facilitate our mission - and at the request of Fayoum Governorate - we contacted the Media Department at the Ministry of Environment, to be surprised that the reserve is available to the normal citizen naturally, not so for the journalist who dared and thought about presenting the historical and archaeological treasures that his country contains, and he must pay fees to allow His photography, as if to make a commercial profit from the photographs he will take. The media administration employee expressed my refusal to "System" as she describes it, but I asked her about the amount of the required fees: she answered that she has no knowledge, and that we have to submit a letter to be approved first, then determining the value of the fees. I asked her an intuitive question: Do not visitors photograph their mobile phones? The strange answer was that they only allowed them to photograph themselves, not the reserve, and when I inquired if the ministry was appointed a sergeant to every visitor to make sure that he only depicts himself, so its response was: Yes .. for the reserve a manager who does this.
