All you need to know about Apple's foldable phone

Since the appearance of the first foldable phone from Samsung, rumors and leaks have increased about the direction of its most prominent competitor, Apple, to launch a phone in the same category, especially since foldable phones are the future trend in the world of smartphones.

Apple holds a patent for a foldable phone

The company holds several patents for foldable phones. Some of them dated back to 2016.

One of the patents shows an iPhone with a flexible OLED screen that folds in half horizontally and a metal hinge. Both halves of the screen remain available when the phone is closed.

Another patent describes two magnetically connected monitors that can be used together.

This indicates that the company is developing a foldable device such as the Galaxy Z Flip from Samsung.

In addition, other patent submissions show that the company has a foldable phone that has a protective screen layer that is resistant to cracks.

The foldable phone has a hard layer that will fill in the tiny cracks that exist to make it difficult for larger cracks to appear.

It should be noted that many smartphone manufacturers file several patents confirming that they are working on a product but may not be released.

Given that the company is expected to offer screens that support a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz in the iPhone 13 phones this year, it makes sense that this rate will appear via the foldable screen as well.

And when it comes to the camera, Apple will likely bring similar upgrades. So that the phone comes with three cameras and support for the modern LIDAR sensor.

The phone may contain Touch ID with the removal of Face ID technology to conflict with the screen that folds from the middle.

Expected cost and release date

There are many different factors that determine the price of the upcoming Apple foldable phone. Including device release time, screen size, and competitor pricing at that time.

For example, the Galaxy Fold 2 currently retails for $1,780, which is $200 less than the first model.

Foldable phones are a relatively new type of smartphone. So it is likely that the Apple phone will come at a high price.

However, this launch schedule depends on Apple solving major supply chain problems affected by the Corona pandemic.
