Full details of the meeting of the Human Rights Committee of Representatives with the Minister of Sports

The meeting of the Human Rights Committee in the House of Representatives, headed by Representative Tariq Radwan, discussed what has been done regarding the establishment of a human rights unit in the Ministry of Youth and Sports in terms of its structure, the tasks it is entrusted with, its role in spreading a culture of human rights, receiving complaints and working to resolve them, and coordinating between it and the Committee With regard to complaints received from citizens and agencies regarding human rights.

Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, Minister of Youth and Sports, stressed that Egypt is a large country, and the political leadership spares no effort in continuing construction and progress.

The Minister of Sports said: When we care about creating a youth center, it is a human right, stressing that this comes with the aim of achieving internal satisfaction, and not aiming for it to speak about us abroad in respect of the human rights file.

The minister praised the movie “The Danish Experience” by the great star Adel Imam, in which he presented a good model for the Minister of Youth and Sports, who personally monitors youth centers in the farthest place.

With regard to the establishment of a human rights unit within the ministry, the minister indicated that there was actually a unit called the Equal Opportunities Unit, which was concerned with women's rights and empowerment.

The Minister of Youth and Sports explained that the Human Rights Unit in the Ministry was restructured after changing the name of the Equal Opportunities Unit.

In response to what was raised by Representative Amr Darwish, a member of the House of Representatives, regarding suspicions of corruption in the Sports Professions Syndicate, the Minister of Youth said: It is not subject to the ministry from near or far, stressing that oversight is the responsibility of the Central Auditing Organization.

The Minister of Youth said: We are only responsible with regard to the union, which is concerned with sports only.

Dr. Howeida Al-Shahed, Head of the Human Rights Unit at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, confirmed that the unit was initially concerned with equal opportunities with regard to women.

She explained that the unit aims to advance human rights in light of the national human rights strategy, by intensifying campaigns to educate young people regarding coexistence, tolerance, acceptance of others and the rejection of violence and hatred.

She pointed out that there is a strengthening of coordination of communication and coordination with the Human Rights Committee, as well as the National Council for Human Rights, to deal with all the problems mentioned in this regard.

The Director of the Human Rights Unit at the Ministry of Youth and Sports said that a religious cultural salon entitled “The Path of Love” was organized to develop the spirit of love between the Muslim and Christian people of the country.

Representative Tariq Radwan, head of the Human Rights Committee in the House of Representatives, intervened, questioning the coverage of this salon in all governorates, calling for it to be at the level of the Republic, given its importance.

For her part, Dr. Howaida Al-Shahed confirmed that, after the approval of the youth minister, the cultural salon will be an initiative that will be circulated at the level of the governorates of the Republic.
