Amazon officially launches Luna in the US
Amazon has announced the official launch of its cloud-based game streaming service, Amazon Luna, for everyone in the United States.
Amazon first unveiled the Amazon Luna in September 2020. The service has since been available to only a limited number of people through its Invitational Early Access program.
In addition to the US launch, Amazon also announced three new channels via Luna. Channels are a collection of games that users can subscribe to every month.
Amazon also announced that players can now stream Luna games to Twitch with the latest Luna update via PC, Mac or Fire TV.
To achieve this, the company has introduced a new broadcast button that allows players to broadcast the game live with the camera feed overlayed across the screen.
With Fire TV, players can use a QR code to connect their phone as a webcam and microphone.
Amazon offers free games to Prime members
In addition, users can now experience Luna on Fire TV using their iPhone or Android phone as a joystick through the Luna Controller app.
Amazon says the on-screen joystick is an option for gamers without a joystick who want to check out side-scrollers and turn-based RPGs.
Unlike other cloud services, Luna works by allowing users to subscribe to channels on a monthly basis.
The basic Luna+ channel costs $5.99 per month. Family Channel costs $2.99 per month.
Luna+ offers a growing library of over 100 games. While Family Channel offers a curated collection of over 35 games suitable for players of all ages.
As of April 1, Luna+ costs $9.99 per month. Family Channel is available at $5.99 per month. Amazon is also offering the Ubisoft+ channel for $17.99.
It's been more than a year since Amazon first released Luna, which has been facing competition from other services, including Microsoft's Game Pass Ultimate and Nvidia's GeForce Now.
And Amazon's decision to add a regular monthly batch of free games to Prime customers appears to be a way to get more people to try Luna at no additional cost.
